Domaine des Pasquiers – Côtes du Rhône : 89
“The fruity, direct 2019 Cotes du Rhone is a plump, round, joyful expression of Grenache in the south of France. Black cherries dominate, but there is enough herbal complexity to suggest garrigue, and hints of espresso add depth to the finish. Medium to full-bodied, it should be enjoyed over the next few years, while it remains juicy and fresh. Usually available for around $11 to $12 in the U.S., this is a terrific bargain from a modest, family-run – and organically farmed – estate.
Drink 2020 – 2023.”
Domaine des Pasquiers – Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu 2019 : 91
“A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 5% each Cinsault and Mourvèdre, the 2019 Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu spent just a few months in concrete prior to bottling. It’s dark and intensely colored, with notes of black cherries and plums dominating the nose. Full bodied and chunky on the palate, it lacks elegance when compared to the estate’s bottling from Sablet but makes up for it in raw power and concentration, finishing long and softly dusty.
Drink 2021 – 2025.”
Domaine des Pasquiers – Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet 2019 : 92
“The sandly soils around Sablet give the 2019 Cotes du Rhone Villages Sablet an extra dose of florals on the nose, married seamlessly to black cherries and blueberries. A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, all aged just a short time in concrete, it delivers a full-bodied wine that remains airy and silky in texture, ending long, on elegant notes of black tea, rose petals, cocoa and dark fruit.
Drink 2021 – 2026.”
